The U.S. House on Tuesday approved a $20 billion aid package for Ukraine. Congressman Fred Upton tells us it will provide the Ukrainian military with the weapons, logistics, supplies, and intelligence to continue its fight against Russia. He told WSJM News hours before the vote Russia’s Victory Day on May 9 came and went this week with no major announcement from Vladimir Putin, although one had been expected.

“This date of May 9 was targeted,” Upton said. “When I was in Poland a few weeks ago, and Germany as well, the Europeans really thought this was going to be the big date, big time, as to whether Ukraine would rise or fall, and Ukraine is still there. They’re in the battle, and there’s real talk they might be able to prevail and push back.”

The Russian war in Ukraine drags on and Upton says the Ukrainians have beaten all expectations by taking on the world’s second largest military and holding out far longer than the experts had predicted. He said after Tuesday’s vote he’s “proud to report this bill passed with a bipartisan vote of 368-57 and anticipate it will be taken up in the Senate this week and signed by the President shortly thereafter.” Upton adds he’ll continue to support aid to Ukraine.
