It should be easier for parents to buy baby formula under a bill headed to President Biden’s desk for his signature. One of the key sponsors of the legislation is Michigan U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow. She says it will ease the formula shortage by loosening requirements for families who use the Women, Infants, and Children program to buy formula.

“We also want to guarantee that formula manufacturers who want to compete for these WIC contracts have a plan in place to respond to any kind of shortage so we don’t have this situation again,” Stabenow said.

The Biden administration also says its prepared to fly its first shipment of baby formula from overseas to ease the formula crisis. The White House said the shipments would transport the equivalent of up to 1.5 million 8-ounce bottles of the formulas that are in short supply in the U.S. because of the shutdown of the Abbot Plant in Sturgis in southwest Michigan.
