There will be a lot of talking, but we’ll have to wait and see if anything will come out of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s annual Mackinac Policy Conference, which started Monday. More than 1,300 business, community and political leaders are attending. Pistons Sports and Entertainment Vice Chair Arn Tellum, who is chairing the conference, says there are times business leaders need to speak up.

“There are certain issues where we have a responsibility to speak out,” Tellum said. “Like voting rights, voting rights was one issue that galvanized the business community because that is essential to the values of our American democracy.”

Ahead of the official conference opening, a group of sports greats including former Piston Isaiah Thomas and soccer player Mia Hamm will be participating in a celebrity golf outing and a discussion about how sports can unify and bring people together.
