A Niles Township woman is trying to get cannabis dispensaries in the township as the city of Niles and Buchanan already have them. The township board of trustees blocked the businesses in 2019, and Madelyn Patterson is launching a ballot campaign to put it before voters.

“Put your money where your mouth is, you know, actions are bigger than words, right?” Patterson said. “I decided that I’m not going to fool around.”

She says the township could have received over $56,000 for every licensed retail store already. Township treasurer Jim Ringler believes people need to decide.

“Something like that should go before the people that actually live in the township rather than having seven board members dictate what goes in their township,” says Ringler.

Both spoke with our partners at WSBT-22. Patterson needs at least 250 valid voter signatures by August 2 for the November ballot.
