Will Michigan drivers see any relief from Lansing on those sky-high gas prices? GOP lawmakers want to suspend the state’s 27¢ per gallon gas tax for three months. But Governor Gretchen Whitmer remains opposed to that idea.

“Without replacing it, it puts into jeopardy a lot of the construction work that we are obligated to already,” says Whitmer. “It has implications on our bonding plan, which undermines so much of the work that is being done right now.”

The governor says talks are continuing to come up with a plan to save drivers money. Her plan is to give residents a tax rebate of $500 and pause the 6% sales tax on gas.
