Deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division arrested a 33-year-old South Haven man this weekend for operating a vessel while intoxicated on the waters of the Black River in South Haven.

At about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, authorities stopped a 2021 Chaparral pleasure craft for operating with its dock lights on, which caused its red and green navigational lights to be obscured, according to the incident report. During the stop, the operator of the vessel was found to be under the influence of alcohol above the legal limit and was charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated. The name of the operator is being withheld pending arraignment.

Deputies were on patrol in accordance with Operation Dry Water, a national campaign to enforce Boating While Intoxicated laws.
