Army veteran named director of Berrien Road Dept.

A new leader of the local roads will soon be be taking the wheel.

Buchanan resident and Army veteran Mark Heyliger has been hired as the new director of the Berrien County Road Department. The Board of Commissioners approved the hire at their Thursday evening meeting.

And just like that I have a second career,” said Heyliger, in a Facebook post. “Looking forward to being a part of this great team at the Berrien County Road Department and serving the citizens of my county. Excited to start the next chapter with my family.”

According to reporting by the Herald-Palladium, Heyliger’s first day on the job will be Aug. 1. He will be replacing interim director Kevin Stack, who is expected to return to his previous post as engineering supervisor with the road department.
