Short term rentals continue to be a hot-button issue along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The South Haven City Council discussed it last night, with councilmember Joe Reeser talked about his top issue.

“The issue of the total number of short term rentals in this town has to be addressed,” says Reeser. “Whether you want more or less we can discuss it, but the group, the residents, surely want to see less short term rentals in this town and a number of 250 versus our current 390 has been talked about.”

A new survey by Western Michigan University will be going out in the mail to about 2,000 residents about short term rentals, with the report to go to city council by the end of October. The topic dominated Monday night’s meeting, which went just under three-and-a-half hours.
