A water boil advisory for all of Covert Township and part of South Haven Township was issued Thursday after a failure in communication between the South Haven Area water filtration plant and the Covert Township water tower caused a widespread loss of water pressure.

The affected area in South Haven Township inclused M-140 from 13967 M-140 South to 24th Avenue, 24th Avenue from 76255 24th Avenue to 70429 24th Avenue and 72nd Avenue from 24th Avenue to 19487 72nd Avenue.

In anticipation of the water service being restored to the affected area, the South Haven Area Water & Sewer Authority Covert Township issued the precautionary water boil advisory for the affected area until further notice. According to the SHAWSA, communication has been restored and will be monitored in an attempt to predict and prevent any further incidents.

Water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled before consumption to
ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes. Over the next 72 hours, officials will be testing the water to confirm it is safe prior to canceling the notice.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. Contact Water/Sewer/Streets Superintendent Quentin Clark at (269) 637-0737 with any questions.
