The Van Buren Conservation District is planning a Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Fruit Field Day for southwest Michigan fruit growers. The day will be August 10 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Oxley Farms in Lawton. The conservation district says the Fruit Field Day will bring together speakers from the VBCD who will discuss a wide range of topics concerning fruit farmers. The topics will cover crops in fruit rows, Farm Bill cost-share opportunities, pesticide container recycling, and how to prevent the invasive Spotted Lantern Fly. The district’s Kyle Mead says by bringing farmers together with good food and hands-on learning, they hope to initiate changes to farming practices. The field day will include free dinner and refreshments. Growers can RSVP by calling the Van Buren Conservation District or emailing maeap@vanburencd.org. You can also register here.
