The Berrien County Health Department brings back its annual Back to School Bash next week with two celebrations to help parents and kids be ready for the start of the next school year. The department’s Melissa Jordan tells WSJM News the events in Benton Harbor and Niles will offer free vision and hearing screenings, blood lead screenings, and vaccinations against such diseases such as measles, chickenpox, whooping cough, and hepatitis B. There will also be some fun.

“We are going to have Spiderman show up from 10 to 2,” Jordan said. “We also going to be planting seeds, and we also will have a bubble station and a few games for the kids to play. For the parents, we are going to have stations for them to visit to get to know about the other services we offer at the health department.”

Jordan notes children entering kindergarten are required to have their hearing and vision screened. The first bash will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the health department’s Benton Harbor Office, and the other will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the department’s Niles office. Everyone’s welcome.
