Graduates of a local high school are coming together for two final curtain calls this weekend.

This Friday and Saturday night at the John and Dede Howard Auditorium, St. Joseph High School alumni will gather for two final “Encore: Through the Years performances”. Organized about 10 years ago as a way to support the St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation, the alumni-run variety show features acts previously performed in the school’s “Showtime” variety show when the alumni were still students.

St. Joe High School graduate and current WGN morning news producer Jeff Hoover said in a Facebook post that the final performance will be “one to remember.”

“This goes beyond remembering lines, lyrics, and light cues,” he said, in the post. “What truly makes this special is that even though there is a lot of meetings and preparations and some rehearsals before opening night, the vast majority of the hard work is done during the day on opening night! We run the show all day on Friday starting at 9 a.m. and the curtain rises at 7pm! I seriously doubt that many professional theater companies could or would try to do something like this!

“Somehow the magic comes together – thanks to the great leadership of Dennis Bowen, the Steering Committee, the Core Committee, the Stage Manager and Technical Crew. If you can, please get your tickets, while they last for this Friday or Saturday night for a fun evening of singing, dancing, comedy, drama, jazz band, orchestra, and to see old and new friends working hard to put on the best ENCORE show yet as we all bid farewell.”

Hoover and his fellow ’84 grads will be performing a comedy sketch about a time machine that ties into the show’s theme as they celebrate the school’s 150th commencement.

Tickets range from $15 to $50, and can be purchased through the Encore website. The shows begin at 7 p.m. See a full schedule of acts below:
