The funeral for Congresswoman Jackie Walorski will be held Thursday. Congressman Fred Upton tells WSJM News he knew Walorski well, often sitting next to her on flights to and from Washington. He says she had an impact that will be felt for a long time.

“She did a remarkable job of recruiting more women candidates for Congress than just about anything else, and probably tripled the number, at least on the Republican side, of women members of Congress,” Upton said. “Many of them will be there Thursday, grateful for her assistance, and it’s a really tragic day.”

Upton says Walorski worked tirelessly for her Indiana district, and in fact, died while working for the district. Walorski was killed in a traffic crash last Wednesday. Killed in the crash along with Walorski were aides Zachery Potts and Emma Thompson. The other driver, Edith Schmucker, was also killed. Upton says the House will miss Walorski’s voice and presence.
