Police across the state are beginning a drunk driving crackdown that will last through Labor Day. Kendall Wingrove with the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says the three weeks leading up to the holiday are among the deadliest on Michigan roads.

“Call Uber or Lyft or if you’re with a friend, stay overnight and go back the next day. We are encouraging people as the summer wraps up and we go into the Labor Day holiday weekend to celebrate responsibly.”

Wingrove says that 11 people died in traffic accidents over the Labor Day weekend last year. Nearly 45% of all fatalities were related to alcohol or drugs.
