A group of southwest Michigan musicians has written an ode to the old Shadowland Ballroom and Silver Beach Amusement Park in St. Joseph.
The Mystery Forest Band, consisting of southwest Michigan natives Rich Oberheu, Michael Roberts and Bill Schueneman, fondly recall memories of music, dancing and other fun in the song.
The group also released a music video to accompany the song, featuring old photos of Shadowland and the amusement park intertwined with members of the band singing and performing the song in front of the current Shadowland.
As the video spread throughout local Facebook groups, many current and former residents shared how the video brought back happy memories of a bygone era.
“I had so many absolutely great times at shadowland,” said one commenter on a post in the Benton Harbor & St. Joseph, Michigan Memories Facebook Page. “Jay Black of Jay and the Americans had his arm around my shoulder, The Turtles blew us away and the drummer for the Kingsmen gave me his tie. Ahhhhhh the memories!”
