Clear Water Meats in Eau Claire is the recipient of a $200,000 federal grant to help expand its processing capacity. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development this week announced $1.2 million in grants for meat producers. The funding was made available through the United States Department of Agriculture’s Meat and Poultry Inspection Readiness Grant program. Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she’ll work with anyone in the state seeking to invest in rural agriculture. With the grants announced this week, meat processing businesses can cover the costs for improvements like expanding facilities, modernizing processing equipment, and producing packaging needed for FDA approval. Other meat producers receiving $200,000 grants are in Jackson and Mason.
