Inflation was higher than expected in August, curbing optimism for lower day-to-day expenses. Tim Nash is the director of the McNair Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Northwood University. He says there was good and bad in the latest report.

“Gasoline prices were down by over 10% month-to-month, so that was obviously good, but food prices now on an annual basis are up 11% for home food prices and eating at restaurants is up 13.4%.”

Nash says the overall cost to consumers is still making it a struggle for many families.
