A local man narrowly escaped serious injury Monday after his truck left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke reports that a pickup truck driven by 25-year-old Dowagiac resident Efrain Razo was heading south on Rudy Road in Wayne Township early Sunday morning when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the roadway into a tree.

Razo was able to exit the vehicle through the driver side window before the vehicle caught fire. He was evaluated on scene and transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Behnke says drugs and alcohol were not believed to be a factor in this crash, and a seat belt was worn.

Wayne Township Fire and Dowagiac Fire Departments were able extinguished the fire.  County deputies were also assisted by the Dowagiac Police Department.
