Chesterfield Township detectives are trying to piece together what happened inside a condominium that left a WWJ news anchor dead and four others hospitalized. Jim Matthews, who anchored overnights for WWJ in Detroit and reported for the Michigan News Network, was killed Friday at the Hidden Harbor Condominiums in the area of Hooker Road and Jefferson. His 35-year-old girlfriend and their two children were injured. A man, who was known to the family, is in custody. Here’s Chesterfield Police Chief Brian Bassett.

“We have a 35-year-old white female in critical but stable condition, a 10-year-old white male in critical condition, a 5-year-old white female who is stable, and our suspect is stable at this time. Our investigation has determined this is an isolated tragedy that does not present a danger to the community at this time.”

As for what led to the violence, that is not clear. Bassett declined to go into details when asked if this was a premeditated attack on the family.
