After weeks of decline, gas prices are back on the rise across the state. Michigan drivers are paying an average of $3.97 per gallon, up 17¢ from last week. Triple-A Michigan spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland says the higher prices are due to fluctuating oil prices and tight supply because of planned and unplanned maintenance work at oil refineries on the West Coast and in the Midwest. Woodland says Hurricane Ian could also impact prices at the pump.

“Another big factor in the fall that usually can affect gas prices are hurricanes, and we actually have a hurricane having right now on track for the state of Florida.”

Woodland says the demand for gas is dropping nationwide, which means prices will likely decline after the refinery issues are resolved.
