Taking place this week at the Family Dollar in South Haven will be COSY radio’s Project Personal Care. This is the ninth year for the event, which collects personal hygiene items for those who are struggling. COSY’s Paul Layendecker tells us there’s a need in the community.

“Simple things that you and I take for granted every day,” Layendecker said. “Soap and toothbrushes and toothpaste, for example. Those kids of things that are given to people in need through the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency.”

Layendecker says it’s always striking to see the generosity of those who contribute.

“Some because they’ve been there and they’ve needed help in the past. Some give because they have ten dollars they want to donate, or some look forward to this event every year and show up because they want to be part of something big.”

With the event taking place right there at the Family Dollar, Layendecker says it’s simple to grab some items and drop them off with the COSY crew stationed at the store. They’ll be accepting items Thursday and Friday from 10 to 6, and then on Saturday from 10 to 2.
