Ford sales slipped 10% in October, as sales for the auto industry as a whole were up by 11%. Ford analyst Erich Merkel told Michigan News Network the problem wasn’t on the demand side.

“It has more to do with being able to produce and get those vehicles out to our dealers to fill the sales because we, for the seventh straight month, we had 50% of our retail sales coming from previously placed orders that customers put in for their vehicles,” Merkel said.

Merkel says Ford had a number of vehicles that were built but were waiting for computer chips. He says there were also delays in getting vehicles to dealerships.
