Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she has zero desire to become President. She tells the Detroit Free Press she will serve as governor for the next four years and “the lure of Washington DC has not been something that has ever drawn my interest or attention,” adding state government is more effective on people’s lives. Whitmer has gained national attention in the last several years for her criticism of former President Trump’s response to COVID-19 and as an advocate for women’s reproductive rights. The Hill ranked her fourth behind President Biden, Vice President Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg among Democrats who are potential candidates in 2024.
