Gas prices are down to start out Thanksgiving week, but they could still be at a record level in time for the big holiday. AAA of Michigan’s Adrienne Woodland says the statewide average dropped 23 cents on Monday for a Michigan average of $3.79 a gallon.

“Right now they’re trending lower,” Woodland said. “One of the major factors on the lower pump prices that we’re paying are lower crude oil prices. That’s really pushing pump  prices down here in Michigan and in other parts of the country.”

Woodland says prices may be down, but they’re still higher than Michigan’s Thanksgiving record of $3.61 a gallon, set in 2012. The cheapest gas in the state on Monday was in metro Detoit at $3.65. The most expensive gas on Monday was in Jackson, Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor.
