Non-regulated marijuana is flooding the market across Michigan, leaving customers concerned about the safety of cannabis products sold at licensed dispensaries. Brian Hanna is acting executive director of the state’s cannabis regulatory agency.

“It’s also public health and safety,” Hanna said. “You do not want unsafe products getting in the hands of consumers, especially when they think it’s safe and tested when it hasn’t been. So, we’re really ramping up our efforts and increasing unannounced inspections, and at the end of he day, it supports those who are doing the right things.”

Non-regulated marijuana hits the market when suppliers want to boost their volume, or retailers want to fill their shelves with products bought at a cheaper price. Hanna says there are several investigations underway to find the sources of how non-regulated marijuana hits the market.
