Holiday preparations and end of the year work tasks are things that are leading to American workers being burned out, according to new research by Robert Half Staffing. Recruiting manager Shannon Edlinger says 76% of those surveyed are burned out, 17% are distracted by holiday shopping and 7% by holiday work parties.

“Managers should encourage regular breaks and time off throughout the year,” says Edlinger. “If we can cultivate a culture of healthy work-life balance to avoid burnout, and we can ensure it doesn’t get built up by year end. Employee burnout can lead to decreased morale in your culture, decreased productivity, and that all leads to an increase of turnover.”

Edlinger says employers should encourage employees to take time off throughout the year and take short breaks during the day to avoid burnout.
