Set for Saturday is the first ever Sports Card Day at the Lincoln Township Library and on hand to sign autographs will be former Detroit Tiger Willie Horton. Library Adult Services Director Brian Johnston tells us sports card collecting remains a popular hobby, and for the first event dedicated to collecting, he wanted someone special to be there. After asking around, he learned Willie Horton could be possible.

“I definitely had heard of him and knew a lot about him, but I kind of thought that maybe he’d be a little bit too big for us to get,” Johnston said. “But I reached out to a Facebook group that the admin knew his agent and was able to get me in touch with him. I reached out to a bunch of local businesses and local organizations, and several of them have generously agreed to sponsor the event.”

Johnston says Horton will sign autographs between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the library on Saturday. There’s a limit of two autographs per person, and mini bats, helmets, and bobbleheads cannot be signed. The visit by Horton is possible thanks to support from local businesses including Boelcke Heating and Air Conditioning, Chill Hill Winery, Father and Sons Sports Memorabilia, Griffin Tool, The Sports Card Shop at MoCo, Kruggel Lawton CPA, the Biggest Little Business Association, and the Baroda Area Business Association. Sports Card Day will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
