There was a big turnout this week for a veterans holiday food basket giveaway in Benton Township. Speaking to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners Thursday, Veterans Services Director Maureen Adams said 150 baskets with turkey and other items went fast on Wednesday at the Berrien County Health Department.

“We ran out of baskets by 1:30 and our event started at 1,” Adams said. “We actually had to start off early because we had the cars lined up side by side and we were going to have to start pushing out to Napier, so they were in line and we started giving away food at about 12:30.”

Adams said her office got help for the giveaway from Boss Services, Whirlpool, and local veterans who wanted to volunteer. The event was possible thanks to support from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. She said the day was “amazing.”
