The state’s top doctor says flu cases are increasing in Michigan as RSV cases drop. Chief medical executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian says RSV cases, which usually surge in January, hit the state earlier and the virus affected some two and three-year-olds.

“It’s not just our only one-year-olds who are seeing RSV for the first time, but we’ve also got some two-year-olds and three-year-olds who are also seeing RSV for the first time,” says Bagdasarian. “So in a sense, you can think of this as playing catch-up for the two seasons of RSV that we have missed.”

Bagdasarian says the best ways to prevent the spread of the flu and RSV include washing your hands well, not going to school or work when you’re sick and masking up if you have symptoms.
