Teachers and staff members of Kalamazoo Public Schools are stunned by the sudden resignation of superintendent Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri on Monday. Kalamazoo Education Association president Heather Reid says they were speechless by the resignation that was announced after the board approved a one-time bonus for all staff that had the superintendent’s support. She says it sounds like she left over internal politics with the school board and adds they did not play a large role in her leaving. Board trustee Megan Maddock said Monday she was “disappointed and disheartened that this board of seven competent and passionate community leaders were unable to appropriately support her and help her in order to retain her.”
