It’s not often an opening act gets called back on stage for an encore, but that’s exactly what happened the first time Them Coulee Boys first came to Benton Harbor in 2019.

Ever since that night, the Wisconsin-based group has been making regular tour stops at The Livery – much to the delight of the local crowd – and they are once again set to return again for a headlining show this Saturday at 8 p.m.

“They finished their set and the crowd was going bonkers,” said Livery Booking Manager Brandon DeJaynes, of their opening show in 2019. “To this date, it may be the only time an opener was called back for an encore song.”

Them Coulee Boys craft their heartfelt brand of Americana from a blend of folk, punk, bluegrass and rock. The five piece band uses rich four-part harmonies and a boot-stomping rhythm section which elicits both emotional reactions and hollers for more.

“They’re a really nice mixed bag,” DeJaynes said. “Being a heartland rock-and-roll outfit at heart, but touching on the other styles adds a whole new dynamic to the bluegrass scene. Not a lot of bands in that scene have a drummer and electric bass. … They’re loud, they rock and we’re really excited to see them reach a new level each time they come in.”

The band also expressed their excitement in a Facebook comment on The Livery’s page.

“We love The Livery and can’t wait to be back,” they said. “One of our favorite spots to play ANYWHERE, and that’s because of the crowd. We’ll bring it!”

With three full length albums and an EP behind them, the band has garnered international attention and earned press in American Songwriter and The Bluegrass Situation, according to their website.

“Their trusty van has propelled them thousands of miles across the country and into the hearts of strangers, who tend to leave each show as family. It’s music that creates community through the shared experience of joy and giving a shit.”

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at The Livery website.
