Governor Gretchen Whitmer delivered her fifth State of the State address Wednesday night. The morning after, Governor Whitmer talked about what she wants to get done first.

“I’m hopeful that some of the first bills I sign into law are bills repealing the retirement tax and bills to give working families a tax credit,” says Whitmer. “The Earned Income Tax Credit, which is what we used to call it, is a Ronald Reagan policy that he was very, very supportive of. It was gutted about 12 years ago in Michigan when they started taxing pensions, and I want to undo both those.”

Whitmer says at a time when inflation is so high, it would be a great way to get people relief. She is talking about her proposals in Grand Rapids and Muskegon today.
