Senior citizens in Covert Township can now use the programs offered by Senior Services of Van Buren County. Township Supervisor Daywi Cook tells us voters in August approved a one mill levy for the service. Any Covert Township resident age 60 or older can benefit in a variety of ways from the organization.
“They have exercise programs, they have socialization events, they will help with medical transportation,” Cook said. “In fact, they’re also partnered with a transportation service to come bring our seniors from Covert to the center and bring them back home. They also have a dedicated care coordinator for Covert Township.”
Cook says the township is looking at setting up an office locally for that care coordinator to be closer to residents. Senior Services of Van Buren County also offers tax preparation help, computer help, and special events. With a lot of seniors in Covert Township, Cook says she hears frequently about the need for such programs.
