M-63 near the Whirlpool corporate headquarters will be closed starting Monday and continuing through May. The Michigan Department of Transportation says it’s approved a permit to close the road between Benson Road and Paw Paw Avenue in Benton Township while Whirlpool installs a tunnel under it. The company is adding the non-motorized pedestrian tunnel as part of its biking trail in the area. The tunnel will enable riders of the 5.5 mile Lakeview Trail on the east side of M-63 to cross over to trails on the west side of the road, and vice versa. There will be a detour posted while the work takes place.
