If you’re a parent do you think you have realistic views on your kids’ exposure to vaping? A new national poll by the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health at the University of Michigan Health shows a gap. Sarah Clark is co-director of the poll and says four in five parents think their child understands the health risks of vaping.

“Parents seem to appreciate that there certainly are health risks associated with vaping, even though vaping has been billed as a healthier and safer alternative to traditional cigarettes. They do contain nicotine, and nicotine is addictive.”

16% of parents would rather their child vape than drink alcohol or use drugs and 10% think vaping is not as bad for long term health as smoking cigarettes. Clark says the health risks of vaping are addiction and harm to the lungs from inhaling nicotine and chemicals.
