An elderly woman and a baby were involved in a Volinia Township crash Friday morning.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke reported that just before noon, a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Dowagiac resident Allie Williams failed to yield when entering Marcellus Highway from Decatur Road, crashing into a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Marcellus resident Jared Steiner – who was traveling with one-year-old Maria Steiner.

Both Williams and her passenger, 19-year-old South Bend resident Darius Stewart were transported to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac. An update on the Steiners was not given by authorities.

Behnke said drugs and alcohol are not considered a factor in the crash, and seatbelts were worn. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies at the scene were Wayne Township Fire Department, Dowagiac Fire Department, Pride Care Ambulance, and Marcellus Ambulance.
