There’s a worker shortage in a critical healthcare profession. Brent Wirth is President and CEO of Easterseals MORC, a mental health service provider with locations in the Detroit area. He says only 50% of graduates in social work and mental health go on to hold positions in the field.

“We are seeing a shortage of social workers and counselors,” Wirth said. “In fact, due to the data that’s out there, only about 50% of the graduates are able to fill the positions. So, there are a lot of positions that are open.”

Wirth says Easterseals is training students and interns to fill open positions across the field of mental health care. He says preparing students and interns for careers in mental health will help to tackle the worker shortage.
