With Lansing lawmakers set to return to work this week, movement is expected on extreme risk protection order gun legislation. It’s adoption would allow a firearm to be taken from an individual, at least temporarily, if a court finds that they are an immediate risk or threat to themselves or others.

“They weren’t in town last week and I anticipate we will continue the conversation about actions we can take to keep people safer from gun violence that is playing out in this country everyday.”

That’s Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who is expected to formally sign two other gun reform measures into law this week. Those would institute mandatory universal background checks on all gun sales in Michigan and require gun owners engage in safe storage of their firearms.
