Michigan State Police throughout southwest Michigan have launched a billboard campaign to recruit new troopers. MSP Fifth District Lieutenant DuWayne Robinson tells us the billboards sport the phrase, “Live Local, Serve Local.”

“The billboards are going to highlight the fact that anyone interested in working with Michigan State Police will not only be able to work for a great department, but they will also be able to come back home and live local in their home town where they grew up,” Robinson said.

Robinson says as troopers retire or move elsewhere, the need for new staff is always present. The nine billboards unveiled this week focus on the ability of new recruits to have a say on where they are assigned. Billboards will be going up along M-139 in Benton Harbor, on Red Arrow Highway in Paw Paw, and on M-51 in Dowagiac, among other places. Five are already up, while the other four are coming soon. They’ll stay up for a full year months and offer information about how to become a state police trooper.
