A 32-year-old Buchanan woman has been found dead in her cell in the Berrien County Jail. The sheriff’s department says Kiara Haynes was in the receiving area of the jail and was found unresponsive just after 12:30 am Monday. Jail staff and medics from Medic 1 Ambulance tried to revive her but were not successful. Haynes had previous medical conditions and was jailed on drug charges. Michigan State Police will investigate her death along with the WMed Medical Examiner’s Office in Kalamazoo. The sheriff’s office says there were no apparent signs of any trauma.
