Safe Kids Greater South Haven is donating 260 life jackets to the city for use on the beaches this summer. The city council approved accepting the gift of 13 boards with as many as 20 life jackets on each. Mayor Scott Smith was pleased with it.

“Thank you for continuing the work you’re doing,” Smith said. “They’re appreciated and anything you’re doing to make it safer, we’re on board.”

City Manager Kate Hosier says the life jackets are in addition to what was given to the city last year.

“We do have approximate locations, but it’ll move based on where conditions are best.”

The council vote was unanimous this week.
