VETERAN ADOPTS DOG HE SERVED WITH IN AFGHANISTAN

Back in 2013, Joseph Steenbeke of Culver, Indiana, was serving in the Army over in Afghanistan – and relied on a bomb-sniffing dog named Tess to keep him and his fellow soldiers safe.

Joseph was then able to come home – and only had a few minutes to say goodbye to his friend Tess, who rarely left his side during his tour of duty.

While back at home in Indiana, Joseph continued to keep in touch with those in charge of Tess, with hopes of adopting her.

Well, his dream came true recently as Tess finally retired from her service. Joseph and his wife swooped in and picked up the loyal dog to begin their new life together.

Tess has been all over the world and has been through some extreme adventures. But now that her hard work is over, Joseph is now letting her sit back, have fun – and enjoy a pampered life as a payback for her service and protection those years ago. (WSBT-TV)
