Three people are dead and three others are critically injured after a plane crash near Lansing Thursday morning. The single engine plan carrying the six passengers went down around 9 a.m. in a field near the Capital Region International Airport. Officials say the flight originated in Indianapolis and the plane was attempting to land when the crash occurred. Clinton County Sheriff Larry Jerue says the scene of the crash is not as some might expect.

“The aircraft appears to be intact. The wings are still attached, the propeller is there. Obviously it appears to be a very hard impact,” said Jerue. “There was no fire on board, the aircraft did not disintegrate and the whole body of the craft appears intact.”

Jerue says it does not appear the passengers were family members. The three survivors are being treated at Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital. The cause of the crash will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board. No names have been released.
