A situation involving a suspicious package has been resolved safely in Cass County. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department says police were called around 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday about a package found sitting on a bench outside of Hale’s Hardware in Dowagiac. Due to it being considered suspicious, the area was evacuated and sealed off and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was called in. The bomb squad x-rayed the package and found it to be empty. The area was then re-opened for business. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Dowagiac Police Department, the Dowagiac Fire Department, and Michigan State Police. The case remains under investigation.
