Could Congress approve another coronavirus stimulus package? Congressman Fred Upton still says yes. After months of failing to reach a deal, Upton tells WSJM News Republicans and Democrats could be convinced to support a plan with pressure from his Problem Solvers Caucus. Its 50 or so members have been discussing that this week.

“We’re very close to getting some accommodation and we’ll keep you posted in terms of the negotiations and the comments,” Upton said. “It’s been a very constructive process.”

Upton says the COVID package will also include something new.

“I would image that if we are able to get another COVID package and tie it with a continuing resolution, then there will be additional funds for the Post Office.”

The House approved a bill for the Postal Service last month, but that’s as far as the postal funding got. Upton says other parts of a COVID bill will be unemployment, stimulus checks, and money for rural broadband. He says the goal is to recover from the pandemic, and “really restore our way of life.”
