The Michigan Department of Transportation will demolish the Highland Avenue bridge over I-94 in Berrien County this weekend. Spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells WSJM News the work will result in the total closure of I-94 on Saturday night through Sunday morning.

“We’re going from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, and so there probably won’t be a whole lot of local traffic,” Schirripa said. “What local traffic there will be able to find their way around it pretty easily.”

The highway will be closed from the Napier Avenue exit to the M-140 exit. There will be posted detours. Schirripa says there will be another total closure of I-94 on Saturday, May 1 through the next morning, also for a bridge demolition. The bridge demolitions are part of the MDOT project to extend US-31 to I-94.
