Five South Haven firefighters will be honored for their combined 118 years of service to the city when they are added to the Memorial Wall of the Michigan State Firemen’s Association in Roscommon. The service will be Saturday, as the third Saturday in September is dedicated to firefighters from across the state and their families gathering to remember the men and women of the Michigan Fire Service who have passed.

The five from South Haven who will be added this year are Edward Bierhalter with 22 years of service with the South Haven Fire Department; David Henry with 36 years of service to the SHFD and South Haven Area Emergency Services; Thomas Leva with 25 years with SHFD and SHAES; Jack McCloughan with 16 years with SHFD; and Patricia Quinn who served 19 years with the Covert Fire Department and SHAES. SHAES executive director Brandon Hinz says service to the community has “always been of utmost importance for our members, past and present.” The centerpiece of the site in Roscommon is a 12-foot bronze firefighter statue depicting a firefighter carrying a child to safety.
