More than 150 Republicans are publicly backing Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s bid for a second term. In Grand Rapids Monday, Whitmer said while they don’t agree on all issues, she “will sit at the table and make room for any person who wants to solve problems.” Former Congressman Joe Schwarz says the governor has been “superb” and said what she’s done should have already happened with investing in K-12 schools and higher education. Former Michigan Department of Community Health director Jim Haveman, who held the job under GOP governors John Engler and Rick Snyder, says he wants Republicans to know they can vote for a Democrat. Haveman adds he hasn’t seen any policies from Republican gubernatorial nominee Tudor Dixon that reflect “any understanding of policy.”
