It was a disappointing holiday sales season in Michigan. Andrea Bitely, of the Michigan Retailers Association says 51% of Michigan retailers saw a sales decrease in December.

“When you look at December of 2021, more than 70% of retailers reported a sales increase,” Bitely said. “So, we are not doing well when you compare to last year. Even when you compare December of 2022 to November of 20222, we also see a drop in sales.”

38% of retailers saw a sales increase. Bitely says its a concern for the coming months and it could affect future orders, hiring and advertising.
