The former location of the Pumphouse Grille and Vivi’s at 214 State Street in downtown St. Joseph will reopen as a Lee & Birch boutique this spring. The location was a popular restaurant and bar for over 50 years before Vivi’s closed before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the space has been empty since then. Lee & Birch owners have four other stores in west Michigan in Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, Rockford, and Kalamazoo. They say they will also hae a two-bedroom, one bathroom vacation rental available by the end of May. Lee & Birch will occupy about half of the space in the building and another store, yet to be announced, will occupy the other half. It is not known if they have purchased the building or of real estate investor John Bertuca will continue ownership.
